- What is new media?
New media consist of many types such as social media, mobile
apps and content sharing website which allow people to communicate, interact,
share ideas, discuss about certain topic and others.
For example, Facebook,
Youtube, Instagram consider as new media because all of them can share the
content which including video and picture through internet.

Mass communication basically included Public Relations,
Journalism, Advertising and Broadcasting.

Way to communicate
Before: There are only one-way communication,
so that audiences will not able to give any feedback. It is because there is no
way for them to comment.
Now: There are two-way
communication as people can communicate, as well as can exchange their opinion
through new media. Therefore, it becomes more interactive, interesting and get closer relationship between each other.
Cost
Before: In traditional media, the cost
will be higher especially for advertising field. From the view of advertisers, they need to pay for the space which cost high. While from the view of audiences, they need to pay also in order to get a copy of newspaper or magazine.

Before: People need to wait for whole day
in order to know about what is happening around us, and so called news.
Now: People can get the updated news all
the times via new media. Besides that, people can also do their discussion
through social media such as Facebook.
Wider
Customer base
Before: The customer base is narrower
because the message is only send to those who expose to the traditional media.
Now: The customer base is wider
as we know that more people getting to use new media. So, people can easily
been targeted about certain issues or topics.
Conveniences
Before: There are more complicated for
people to get more updated information about certain issue. It happened maybe
people need to wait until the newspaper on the next day, then they only able to
know the updated news.
Now: By using new media, people can just
get the information online in everywhere as long as with internet. Also, people
can know more information about certain issue via hyperlinks that provided.

New media really changed the
field of mass communication a lot, but it brings more benefits than harm to our
daily lives.
